Massachusetts Equestrian Dies After Horse Falls During Jump

Chloe Christina Smith, 25, was fatally injured when her show horse balked at a jump during a Friday evening ride with friends, throwing her from the saddle and then collapsing on top of her. She was airlifted to UMass Memorial Medical Center in Worcester, where she died hours later surrounded by family. The horse also sustained a fatal neck injury in the fall. Smith had recently achieved a major life goal by purchasing a working horse farm in Berlin, Massachusetts, where she boarded 18 horses and trained other riders. Her family described her as deeply passionate about horses and equestrian pursuits since childhood, and noted she had also recently opened a bar on the property. Smith was remembered as an ambitious and generous person committed to social justice, with plans to use the farm as a community gathering space.
